Trump Supporters Are Now Trying to Boycott Hawaii, Which Might Be the Best State

And residents seem to be taking it in stride.

In the wake of the Trump administration's new Muslim ban getting smacked down by federal courts in both Maryland and Hawaii, the MAGA crowd has responded in kind by organizing a boycott, of sorts, under the creative hashtag #BoycottHawaii, like a bunch of damn fools. (Maryland, a fine state in its own right, has been spared.)

This is peculiar, even when you overlook the fact that Hawaii and its four electoral votes went overwhelmingly to Hillary Clinton to the tune of 60-something percent. I think it's safe to argue that the majority of smart Americans, even in our righteously polarized political climate, from both red and blue states alike, can agree: Hawaii might just be the best state.

Here is a very short and incomplete list of CULTURE the Aloha State has contributed to America:

  • Hawaiian-print anything
  • Surfing
  • Giovanni's Shrimp Truck
  • Honolulu, a legitimate culinary destination
  • The hit Disney film Moana (which I have not seen), which stars The Rock
  • The Rock, who spent part of his childhood there
  • Mama Gayomali, who also spent part of her childhood there
  • McDonald's Taro Pie, which is still fried and comes in this beautiful piece of packaging:
  • Barack Obama
  • Barack Obama's unwavering and refreshing optimism
  • This image of Barack Obama in green golf shorts
  • Various Spam
  • At least two very good episodes of House Hunters
  • Blue Hawaii
  • Blue Crush
  • Bruno Mars
  • The best season of Real World
  • Several native varieties of plumeria
  • Kauai, which is basically the West Coast's version of Iceland, but warm
  • Asian Emma Stone

For what it's worth, Hawaii's residents appear to be taking the boycott in stride:

So perhaps we should just go ahead and add this to the list as well.

Update: An earlier version of this article failed to include Bruno Mars. We regret the error.
