It's been just shy of two years since Apple changed the wearables game with the introduction of its groundbreaking Watch. Which, naturally, means the device is due for an upgrade.

And according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo—the man who's widely regarded as the best Apple soothsayer on the planet—that's exactly what's going to happen next month. In a note to investors sent this weekend, Kuo predicted that Apple will unveil the second-generation Apple Watch at a special event in September. His research suggests that the new model will feature the same case size and thickness as the current version, but it will feature a thinner screen, its own GPS, a barometer, a longer-lasting battery, a faster processor, and better waterproofing. Not that we're expecting to be able to surf with an Apple Watch anytime soon. The new Watch also won't have LTE connectivity as previously rumored; that's something Kuo doesn't expect to happen until next year.

Kuo also predicted that Apple will unveil an upgraded version of the first-generation Watch that may include the new battery and processor, but will likely skip the GPS and barometer.

The biggest confirmed update to the Watch is watchOS 3, a software upgrade that's expected to debut this fall. It wouldn't be surprising if new hardware came out around the same time.

It's all information that remains unconfirmed by Apple, but it's not stopping us from getting excited about the potential of some upgraded wrist gear.
