Alex Mill's Fall 2019 Collection Is Here to Reset Your Wardrobe
If you were a fan of creative director Somsack Sikhounmuong’s vision for the re-launched Alex Mill earlier this spring, we’ve got good news: his second collection looks a whole lot like his first. The easy-wearing chore jackets, the comfortable pleated chinos, those perfectly rumpled button-downs? They’re all back for another go-round—just a little fuzzier.
“That’s where the big changes come in for fall: textures,” Sikhounmuong, who previously headed up design for J.Crew and Madewell, explains. And Alex Mill’s second drop for Fall/Winter ‘19, which releases today, is heavy on textures—we’re talking wide-wale corduroy, shaggy sherpa fleece, impenetrable herringbone wool, and a whole lot of chunky knits.
It’s all highly functional, extremely wearable stuff, the kind of clothes you could mix and match in the dark and still emerge looking totally put together. “The last thing you want people to labor over is having to look good,” Sikhounmuong says. “We want to make these pieces easy to wear and easy to understand—things that’ll speak to each other today, in ten years, in twenty.”
That’s about as straightforward a goal as you’ll find in fashion, but it’s one that’s not all that easy to achieve. For our money, Sikhounmuong nailed it with this latest Alex Mill offering: from the on-point flannel shirts to the weighty crewneck pullovers, these are the backbone essentials you’ll turn to when you need a break from all the over-the-top wildness dominating the rest of your wardrobe. Below, we picked out all the key pieces to cop right now—and tapped Sikhounmuong to help us explain the thought process behind each.
