Love—and all of its beautiful and, at times, tricky trappings—is different for everyone. So GQ enlisted people on the front lines of the culture to share what love feels like to them. To start, our March cover stars exemplify what it means to be in a modern power couple: Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, Naomi Osaka and Cordae, and Ciara and Russell Wilson.

Sometimes love is more complicated than not, as former politician Andrew Gillum and his wife, R. Jai, show in an intimate and revealing story about moving their marriage past a very public scandal. And sometimes love can be delightful and unexpected: This collection may be the only place on earth where you’ll find a psychedelic integration therapist, a Vegas Elvis impersonator, an HGTV-famous throuple, a legendary tattoo artist’s elderly widow, and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers all musing on the same topic.

Because as writer and climate-change activist Naomi Klein put it to us, “Love, broadly defined, is central to whether or not we are going to survive the shocks ahead.”
