Cody Simpson was a record-breaking swimmer when he was kid, but he has spent the last decade not in the pool but touring, recording, acting, and winning the first season of The Masked Singer in his native Australia. But in 2019, he made a big decision: to try to rekindle his first passion and qualify to compete on the highest level. This month, he’s headed to the Australian Olympic trials, where he’ll vie for a spot on the elite team at this year’s Tokyo Olympics. To prep, he’s got a rigorous schedule: consistent training and a strict bedtime and wake-up call. Also: no booze. As he puts it: “I’m back living my full athletic lifestyle.” For the first episode of GQ’s Real Life Diet series, Simpson walked us through a day of preparing to go from pop star to Olympian.
